I take photographs, I teach, I write and I do research. I am Associate Professor in Photography at the London School of Film, Media and Design, University of West London. I am also one of the founding members of the Thinking the Image Research Group.
I was born in Hong Kong, and grew up in Taipei, where I attended Taipei American School. I started taking pictures when I was ten years old, developing and printing my own work in the school's darkroom. I worked for many years as a freelance photographer in the fashion and music industries, specializing in music album shoots and fashion editorial work in Asia and Europe, including Taipei, Hong Kong and London. I have a PhD in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London, a Maîtrise de Lettres modernes (MA in Modern Literature) from the University of Paris IV, Sorbonne and a BA (Hons) in French from University College London. I love analogue photography and I shoot mainly on film.
